Does Jennifer Aniston Wear Contacts?

Jennifer Aniston has popularized the blonde hair and blue-eyed California girl look, but some people think she wears contact lenses to make her eyes blue. Is this true?

Jennifer Aniston wears contact lenses due to eyesight problems. She used to only wear glasses at first and still does sometimes. Some rumors suggest that Jennifer is faking her eye color with contacts, although there is no conclusive evidence to prove so.

Read on to learn why Jennifer stopped wearing glasses, and why people think her eye color is fake.

Jennifer Stopped Wearing Glasses to Get More Roles

Jennifer rose to fame in the early 1990s and quickly became one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. Most of her fame can be attributed to her portrayal of Rachel Green on the hit sitcom Friends, which aired during 1994–2004. Jennifer won many awards for this role, including a Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild award. The character is still very popular and considered to be one of the greatest female characters in the history of American television.

However, Jennifer had been acting since way before Friends. She got into acting as a child when she enrolled in a Waldorf school at 6 years old and discovered acting at the same school at 11 years old. She also attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan, where her family was settled at the time.

Jennifer’s first regular television role was in 1990 when she appeared in Ferris Bueller, a television adaptation that was quickly canceled. She then starred in a couple of made-for-television films; Camp Cucamonga in 1990 and Leprechaun in 1993. The latter has been called her worse role, and Jennifer herself has expressed embarrassment over it. After this, she appeared in some other failed television comedy series.

Some people believe that Jennifer was finding it difficult to land a role being a glasses wearer, and so she switched to her blue contact lenses, which she is now often seen sporting.

Rumors about Her Real Eye Color: Both Sides of the Debate

The debate about Jennifer’s real eye color has two sides, and we will now look at both.

Some claim that Jennifer’s eyes are actually brown, and she uses contacts to make them look blue.

Jennifer is Greek; she was born Joanna Anastasakis to father Yiannis Anitios Anastassakis, who was born in Chania, Crete. He changed his name and his daughter’s, to John Aniston and Jennifer Aniston respectively, when he moved to the United States in the 1960s. Some of Jennifer’s Greek roots link her to fame as well; John Aniston was a star on the soap opera Days of Our Lives for 30 years, where he played the character Victor Kiriakis. Similarly, Jennifer’s godfather is Telly Savalas, the late legendary actor of the 1970’s TV series Kojak.

The argument here is that most Greeks have dark eyes and dark hair, so that must be the case for Jennifer as well. While it is true that Jennifer dyes her hair blonde and is a natural brunette, this argument is not sound otherwise.

The most common eye color among Greeks is medium brown, but approximately 25 percent have colored eyes, which could be blue, gray, or green, with some pattern of brown along the iris. If you look closely at Jennifer’s eyes, you can see such a pattern, proving that her eye color is her own. Also, it is unlikely that she wears contacts under glasses as well, because she has blue eyes even in pictures where she’s wearing glasses!
